Part of the former Granville Hotel in Ramsgate will be auctioned

Granville Hotel

Part of the former Granville Hotel in Ramsgate is to be offered for sale at auction.

Granville Bars, which has sea views, sits in the block that was designed by the famous architect Edward Welby Pugin.

The Granville was a hotel between 1869 and 1946 before being sold by proprietors Spiers & Pond. It is now a private residence containing 48 self-contained flats.

The building was Grade II listed in 1973.

For sale is a substantial part of the ground floor and basement. It might be used for events, but auctioneers Clive Emson say there is the potential to turn it into residential units, as long as all necessary consents are obtainable.

It is being offered with the remainder of a 999 year lease from 2013 and has a guide price of £200,000-plus.

Clive Emson, the land and property auctioneers, has listed 115 lots for the up-coming sale.

Also at the sale is 43 Fairfield Road in Ramsgate, a three bedroom end-terrace house for improvement with a freehold guide price of £150-155,000.

Dave Henwood, senior auction valuer, said: “This is a property close to schools and railway station and includes a garage and back garden.

“Residential property is still highly sought after and family homes such as this are in demand. We anticipate a great deal of interest.”

The auction also includes 40 Westover Gardens in Broadstairs, a four bedroom end-terrace house with potential for subdivision as long as all necessary consents are obtainable. It has a freehold guide price of £180,000-plus.

Clive Emson has reported a strong 2018 despite uncertainty surrounding the market.

The next auction takes place on Tuesday 15 February at the Clive Emson Conference Centre, Kent County Showground, Detling, beginning at 11am.

  1. I will go to the auction and if the price is right I will buy it. I would want to turn it into a ladies only members club. Not sure if it would be allowed under the equalities act but I will look into that. Excited.
