Permission has been granted to develop the Premier store at Cowley Rise in Dane Valley to add a hot food takeaway and create four flats.

Owner Malwai Singh Nijar is now asking residents what kind of takeaway food they would like at the site.

Malwai, who also owns Pej boxing club in Westbrook, said: “This planning permission marks a very positive milestone for Dane Valley. The current convenience store is a vital amenity for locals. Upgrading the site to open a new hot food takeaway and improving the convenience store and apartments will provide great additional services for the local community and, importantly, a local hub.

“There has been overwhelming support for this redevelopment from local residents and we are pleased that their voices have been heard.

“We want to revitalize the area with a fresh, new, up-to-date development. We believe that this significant investment in the local area will help to reduce anti-social behaviour, provide employment opportunities for local people in the new businesses and new good quality housing locally.

“We are planning to start work on this project in the new year. We will be consulting local residents on their preferred choice of hot food outlet and look forward to receiving some constructive feedback.

“We’d like to take this opportunity to thank the local residents, the Dane Valley Councillors and our architects from GPM2 design who are clearly very passionate about the area, for their hard work and support in getting this project off the ground.”

The building will be extended to two and a half storeys in height and the roof of the existing building will also be raised, with dormers added in the roof space, to create the flats.

The project has been supported by Dane Valley ward councillors Gary Hillman and Gary Taylor.

Thanet council granted approval on December 4.
