Landlordism and homelessness explored at Resort event

The question of land ownership

Economist and author Laurie MacFarlane will talk about housing and land supply at an event in Cliftonville this Thursday (April 5).

From the Ground Up: Property and the Politics of Regeneration takes place at Resort, 50 Athelstan Road, from 7pm.

Mr MacFarlane, the co-author of The Economics of Housing and Land, will set out how the housing market works and how it relates to the rest of the economy.
He will also talk about ‘arts-led regeneration’ and how Thanet can grow its economy while housing its people properly.

The Economics of Housing and Land, organised by Dan Hind and Dan Scott, looks at how land value increases push up house prices and the changing face of ownership and renting.

They say market forces are driving more and more people into inadequate, insecure and expensive properties, with landlordism and homelessness booming.

There will be wine after the talk and a chance to buy copies of Laurie’s book.

The talk is free to attend but you need to register here
