RAD Season magazine has named the Wheels and Fins festival in Broadstairs as among the top seven surf fests in Europe!
Picking its ‘unmissable’ surf fests the magazine highlights the jam-packed programme of Wheels and Fins.
The fifth annual Wheels and Fins takes place from September 8-10 at Joss Bay.
Event director Dave Melmoth (pictured) said: “I was really stoked to hear that we had been named as one of Europe’s finest surf/beach festivals.. There are some serious names in that hat so we were pretty honoured to be among them.
“Once again this year we have really tried to up the game and the line-up is looking awesome. Additionally we are really proud to be hosting the UK Mini Ramps Champs for 2017 and looking forward to seeing skate legend Mike Vallely (below) fly in from the USA.
“Hopefully people will see that we are trying to put on something exceptional for the area and now it appears we have been internationally recognised for it. It just goes to show that persistence pays off.
“We would like to thank all those that have already booked tickets and shown there support for us this year. For those that haven’t, there is still time. See you on the beach!”
Bands and DJ’s confirmed so far include: Twin Atlantic, Danny Howard, Mike Vallely & the New Arms, The Picture Books, Icarus, Josh Parkinson, Jon Kennedy, Kylie Griffiths, Skinny Girl Diet, Steak, Danny Allen, Killing Giants, Meister and Trail & Error.
On the Sunday Deliciously Twisted presents Jess Bays, Twisted Fish, Steve Zest, Derrick Patterson, Mark G, Gary B b2b Tenjay, Jasper, Tom Glide & TastySax – Additional headliners still to be announced…
Also, joining the line-up will be skate legend and Black Flag frontman Mike Vallely, performing with his new band Mike Vallely & the New Arms.
The beach will host the Boombox Experiment presenting the Triple 5 Sound System whose DJ’s include: Matt Smith, Emmet Keane, Richard Epps, Dean Thatcher, DJ Shunhim, Jenx, and Tony Tooke.
Wheels and Fins will also be hosting the 2017 UK Mini Ramps Champs for the first time this year. Skate Pharmacy will oversee the judging with the help of Dan Cates. Marc Churchell will be comp MC.
King Ramps have once again designed the ramp for this year. Already confirmed are Lee Blackwell, Kris Ville, Sam Murgatroyd, Charlie Munro and Carl Potter Wilson.
The UK Flatland BMX Championship also returns. The event was an instant success with the crowd on its introduction to the festival in 2016 and brings you world class flatland BMX athletes battling it out for the UK title.
Some of the biggest names in the European scene are already booked to be riding, including 2016 BMX Pro World Champion Dominik Nekolny flying in from the Czech Republic. Matti Hemmings, three times Guinness World Record Holder and Games competitor Effraim Catlow will be judging.
