One of the best musicals of all time unfolds on stage in Margate this week when Hart Theatre Company students present My Fair Lady at Hartsdown Academy on Tuesday and Wednesday.
It tells the story of a poor Cockney flower seller named Eliza Doolittle who overhears an arrogant phonetics professor, Henry Higgins, as he casually wagers that he could teach her to speak “proper” English, thereby making her presentable in the high society of Edwardian London.
Show-stopping songs include Wouldn’t It Be Loverly?, With a Little Bit of Luck, The Rain in Spain, I Could Have Danced All Night, Get Me to the Church on Time, Why Can’t A Woman Be More Like a Man?, and I’ve Grown Accustomed to Her Face.
A winner of eight Academy Awards, the musical is based on George Bernard Shaw’s stage play Pygmalion.
Tickets for the performances are available at Hartsdown Academy reception, 0184 227957.
