Broadstairs Cricket Club weekend results

Broadstairs 1st XI

Broadstairs 1st XI notched-up their first victory of the season with a convincing win away to Sibton Park.

Winning the toss and electing to bowl first on a slow pitch, some disciplined opening bowling from Elliot Fox and Chris Flint followed by Jamie Dewell and Masoud Rangan restricted the hosts to 68-3.

The star of the show was Chris Kidd who came on in the 17th over and proceeded to scythe his way through the Sibton Park batting order. At drinks, Sibton Park were 91-6 and shortly afterwards were all out for 106 with Chris taking 6 wickets for 23 off his 7.4 overs and Swaroop Dasari claiming the remaining scalp.

In reply, Broadstairs began cautiously but when Elliot Fox was run out for 6 in the 8th over and the score at 26-1, the combination of Swaroop and Isaac Dilkes took the score onto 78 for 2 with Swaroop cruising to his first 50 of the season. Once Isaac was dismissed for 16, a succession of wickets followed (Andy Bailey, Chris Flint, Swaroop) and eventually, Broadstairs achieved the target in the 26th over with Jack Wheeler and Alfie Huntley seeing the side home.

This victory coupled with some promising individual performances last week bodes well for the newly-promoted side and is hopefully is a sign of good things to come this season. Next week, we host fellow promotees Chestfield in what promises to be a tough encounter.

Broadstairs 2nd

Following a good result in their first league a disappointing batting performance meant that Broadstairs 2nd let slip the chance of winning their first 2 league games.

Bexleyheath won the toss and decided to bat.  A couple of early chances were spilled by the Broadstairs fielders and the opening pair of Richley (34) and Olufqwo (50) produced what in the end was a match winning partnership of 70 and at the halfway stage were 91-2.

Bradley Ellison had produced his usual miserly figures of 1-36 off 15 overs. Callum McCormick and Ashley Ellison were brought into the attack and wickets fell regularly in the next 18 overs with hardly any more runs being scored as Bexleyheath were dismissed for 130 in the 42nd over. Callum ended with 3-37 and what was hoped to be a match winning spell of 5-13 from 7 overs.

Broadstairs batting started off poorly and didn’t improve. Tom Renouf making his debut for the club was dismissed in the 1st over without scoring and Callum Morgan also failed to trouble the scorers being bowled in the 3rd over quickly followed by Lee Hewitt (9) and the score was 11-3.

Lewis Hewitt smashed a quick 23 to give Broadstairs some hope but with Brian Simpson receiving an unlucky LBW the 4th wicket fell.  Apart from Callum McCormick who whacked a few at the end with 19 none of the other Broadstairs batsmen reached double figures as they were bowled out for 77.
