Hipsville festival to go ahead despite changed reopening date for Dreamland

Hipsville at Dreamland

The Hipsville festival at Dreamland Margate will take place despite the delayed opening date for the park.

The 60s-themed event will be held on April 28-30. The weekend had been earmarked for the park’s official reopening but following further investment and new renovation plans this has now been pushed back to May 26.

Hipsville will feature international bands, all-star DJs, Saturday night costume party, exotic TiKi cocktail party, vintage market stalls plus a car and bike show.

The Friday and Saturday night bash  will have dancing until the early hours to the wilder sounds of the 60s and beyond in the beautifully restored 1920s and seaside themed Ballroom.

Saturday and Sunday afternoon will be guests’ chance to get exotic as Hipsville has its very own cocktail party called TiKiville. Partygoers can enjoy tropical cocktails whilst DJs spin tunes and bands deliver exotic sounds. Guests are encouraged to dress in casual Hawaiian to make it a real hula hula TiKi afternoon!

Custom car show

For 2017, Hipsville has a weekend long custom car show taking place undercover in Dreamland’s iconic Hall By The Sea, featuring a display of traditional styled cars that were created in the United States from the late 1940s through to the mid 1960s.

The location for the show is particularly fitting, due to the Hall By The Sea’s fruitful history where bands such as The Rolling Stones and The Who performed and more recently where Ivor Novello award winner, Bat For Lashes and new breakthrough indie band, Wolf Alice headlined at last Autumn’s By The Sea Festival.

Vintage, custom cars and bikes from all eras are welcome all weekend and on Sunday the famous Hipsville rosettes will be awarded to the “coolest” sets of wheels.

In addition to music, cars, bikes, go-go girls and gorillas, Hipsville has a two day vintage market with stalls selling clothes, records and homeware.

It will run from 11am to 6pm and then 8pm to 6am on Friday and Saturday and 11am to 6pm on the Sunday.

A police objection to the event has been withdrawn.
