A power cut in Ramsgate last night through to this morning (September 27-28) was caused by an explosion in a substation.
Some 2039 properties, mostly in the town and seafront, were affected by the outage at 11.43pm. Many people reported hearing a loud bang before the electricity went off.
Some properties are still without power this morning.
Kent Police were called to a town substation last night and have confirmed there was an explosion.
A Kent Police spokesman said: “Kent Police was called to a report of an explosion and subsequent power cut in the High Street area of Ramsgate.
“Officers attended and established that the explosion had taken place at an electricity substation in Chapel Place Lane.
“There were no injuries and UK Power Networks were made aware of the incident.”
UK Power Network engineers worked to get the power back on with electricity restored to most homes by 3.50am but some properties were still without power at 8am this morning.
A UK Power Networks spokesman saidd: “We do still have some properties without power in the area. Our engineers are on site and we’re estimating to have the area back on power back on between 9:30 and 10:30am.”
They said the cause was an ‘underground network fault.’
UPDATE: Some 50 properties in the Ellington Park area are still without power. Estimated time for it to be repaired is between 1.30pm and 2.30pm.
UK Power Networks say there is a fault with an underground cable in Ellington Road and a specialist team will need to excavate and fix the problem.
3.50pm: 26 properties are still waiting for power to be restored. UK Power Networks estimates this will be by 6.30pm-7.30pm
